How to embed Google Analytics Tracking code in WordPress and Adobe Muse?
Google Analytics is a free Web analytics service offered by Google that provides statistics and basic analytical tools for search engine optimization (SEO) and marketing purposes. It tracks and reports website traffic. The service is available to anyone with a Google account. Google bought Urchin Software Corporation in April 2005 and used that company’s Urchin on Demand product as the basis for its current service. The major three ways to embed Google Tracking Code in WordPress are:-
- Plugins Method (Recommended) – There are tons of plugins available to add Google Analytics to your site. However, it is probably best to just use a simple light-weight plugin like Insert Header and Footer. Paste the Google Analytics code in the plugin’s settings page.
- Direct Paste Method – Copy the Tracking code, and paste it into your theme’s header.php right after the <body> tag.
- Functions.php Method – Note: only use this if you know what you are doing.
Add the following code in your theme’s functions.php file and don’t forget to paste your Google Analytics code.
1 <?php
2 add_action(‘wp_footer’, ‘add_googleanalytics’);
3 function add_googleanalytics() { ?>
4 // Paste your Google Analytics code from Step 4 here
5 <?php } ?>
Login to WordPress Dashboard
- On the left-hand side, click on Plugins
- In the Keyword bar on the top right-hand side, search for Google Analytics
- Choose your plugin, and click on install now button

While data is important, the right data is essential. It’s becoming easier to feel overwhelmed by the increasing amounts of data being collected. Understanding what’s important to the business (you need clear business goals) helps analysts to evaluate what data counts or should be counted. Albert Einstein was on to something when he said we can’t always track what we want to count, but that doesn’t stop us from constantly exploring new ways to get the data we need (just remember to respect privacy policies and laws).
“The more we know about how visitors are using content, and the more accurate that knowledge is, the better we can find out what sort of content works best for our target audience and adjust our strategy and posting schedules accordingly. Content may be king, but data is its queen.”
